This year we asked artist Tadas Šimkus, who grew up in Šilainiai, to come back to his native neighbourhood and create a public artwork here.
There are a lot of Tadas’ works in central Kaunas and in other cities across the country, one of the most visible ones – ‘The Wise Man’, co-created with Žygimantas Amelynas.
Tadas has created many visions of Šilainiai (some of them can be seen below), but none of them has had a chance to be realised yet. Together, we picked an old transformer building on site and Tadas will be producing a large scale drawing for it this year.
Before the drawing is realised there will be a public talk with Tadas at Šilainiai library (Baltų pr. 81, Kaunas) 18:00 at 2 October 2017.
Tadas Šimkus’ artwork will be produced in collaboration with Kaunas street art festival NYKOKA.
Šilainiai Project 2017 Artist residencies are partly financed by Lithuanian Culture Council.
To see more Tadas’ works you may visit his studio page ‘Gyva Grafika’: http://gyvagrafika.lt/ and search ‘Gyva grafika’ on Behance.
